What You Should Know and Do

Early intervention gives your child the chance to achieve their best. If you have any concerns about your child's development, do not wait. 

Waiting times for a publicly funded assessment are over a year in Ottawa. A private assessment can also take several months. If/when your child is diagnosed there will be more waiting lists.  The sooner you begin the process the sooner you and your child will be helped.

You will have to do the research and decide what will be best for your child. Remember to check out the people and businesses you are considering using. Currently, there are no regulations in place for therapy programmes or people who run them. Make sure that the people you work with are qualified to give the service they are advertising. 

All behavioural therapy providers should have a psychologist who regularly consults regarding your child's progress and program changes.
